A town of Lessor woman is out nearly $4,000 after falling victim to a telephone scam this week. The 41-year-old woman was contacted by a man on Wednesday who told her that her grandson was in custody in Green Bay after a traffic accident.

A 22-year-old man was found dead early Friday morning of an apparent hit-and-run on County Road M at the state Highway 29 overpass in Shawano. Timothy J. Meade, of Stephenson, Mich., was found in the eastbound lane of traffic on County Road M at 2:30 a.m.

The latest Box in the Wood Theatre Guild production, the Cole Porter musical “Anything Goes,” has signs of deja vu and passing the torch to the next generation. A black bear was spotted in downtown Clintonville early Thursday and reportedly damaged a storefront before making its way out of town. Clintonville police received two calls about the bear shortly before 3:30 a.m. The initial report was that the bear was spotted on the sidewalk in front of the First State Bank about 20 minutes before police were called.
