Menominee Tribal School On Dec. 9, the grades 5-8 language and culture classes visited the logging museum near Keshena to hear Sylvia Wilber discuss the effort that was taken to restore the Menominee Tribe to reservation status. The elders and presenters were impressed with the students who asked pertinent questions, were polite and personally thanked Mrs. Wilber. Menominee Tribal School held a K-8 Family Night on Dec. 12.

Christmas wreaths add a festive look to the fences around the new softball field at Oconto Falls High School. Community members purchased the wreaths in a fundraiser sponsored by the school’s athletic department and Panther Pride.

Mary Koslowsky was honored by the Lena Lions Club for her volunteer service to the Lena community. Mary is the daughter of the late George and Marion Glime. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Lena High School in 1970. Mary graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education.

Marjorie M. Sweda, 69, of the town of Underhill, Oconto County, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, with her loving husband by her side. Marjorie was born Jan. 21, 1944, in Mount Clemens, Mich., a daughter of the late Harold and Hazel (Socia) DeCaussin. She attended school in Mount Clemens, and following graduation from high school, she attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Milwaukee. On Aug.

Amanda K. Sutrick, 34, town of Chase, found her resting place in heaven due to natural causes on Wednesday night, Dec. 11, 2013. She was born Jan. 5, 1979, to Keith and Linda (Rice) Sexton. Amanda grew up in Oconto Falls, where she attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1998.

Clifford G. Marshall, 78, Lakewood, passed away on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Clifford was born in Wabeno to the late G. Clifford and Erna (Jossie) Marshall on May 31, 1935. Cliff married Jean Johnvin on Sept. 13, 1958, at Tabor Lutheran Church in Mountain. Two weeks after their marriage Cliff was drafted into the U.S.

Wayne “Kubie” Kubiscik, 63, Abrams, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at home. He was born Aug. 14, 1950, in Chicago to Chester and Stella (Kotowski) Kubiscik. Wayne moved with his family to the Abrams area in 1965. On Dec. 29, 1988, he married Lee Flanagan in Green Bay. He was employed at Campbell Wrapper Corp. (FMC Corp.) for over 35 years. Wayne will be remembered for his love of hunting, nature and the outdoors.

Alva “Jean” Krause, 83, Oconto Falls, died Sunday evening, Dec. 15, 2013, at Sharpe Care. She was born May 22, 1930, in Milwaukee to Merton and Hattie (Simon) Lusha. Jean grew up in Milwaukee, where she attended both Lutheran elementary and high schools, graduating with the Class of 1948. On July 3, 1948, she married Kenneth Krause in Milwaukee. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Oconto Falls, where they have lived ever since.

Agnes Ann Gilles, 85, resident of the MeadowLands, Oconto Falls, formerly of Lena, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, with family members by her side. Agnes was born Sept. 16, 1928, to Francis Gilles Sr. and Ann (Maloney) Gilles in Lena, the youngest of six children. Her mother died when Agnes was 3, leaving Francis with six children. A few years later Francis married Susan Lisowe. Agnes eventually became the big sister of four more brothers.
