Drew Payne won three events Tuesday as the Gresham/Bowler high school boys track and field team won the Marion Invitational. Gresham/Bowler used nine firsts to finish atop the five-team meet. Manawa won the girls title. Payne took first in the 100-meter dash, long jump and triple jump. Austin Olsen won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Cody Montez won the 3,200 and 1,600 runs. Andrew Pleshek won the high jump.

A 28-year-old Gillett man arrested Tuesday after a two-hour standoff with sheriff’s deputies in Wittenberg was transferred Wednesday afternoon from the county jail to a mental health facility, according to authorities. Shawano County Sheriff Randy Wright said the man was undergoing a mental health assessment. The incident initially reported as a robbery at the Wittenberg Shell station and McDonald’s, 413 N. Genesee St., began about 2 p.m.

Shawano County authorities Wednesday closed the books on an investigation that led to a futile search for drug activity at a county supervisor’s home last week. Shawano Speedway has been forced to delay the start of its 2014 racing season for the second straight week. Track conditions and forecasts of rain and cold temperatures prompted the speedway to move its season start from Saturday to May 3, with a practice session scheduled for May 2. “It is still pretty wet yet,” said Dale Hodkiewicz, Shawano Speedway president.

Kaleb Santy’s ag maintenance class at Oconto Falls High School constructed 11 fish cribs as a habitat improvement project for the Oconto River fish population above the dam. Four fish cribs were perched on the ice just off the new Lions handicap accessible dock near the East Side Beach in Oconto Falls.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Concert Band will present its spring concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the Marinette High School auditorium. The band is composed of school music professionals and other adults who enjoy sharing their love of music with the public. Conductors will be Glen Reinke and Bob Berndt. The band features music for the entire family, including modern jazz, Hollywood musical tunes and classic symphonic pieces.

Roy Lorenz, president of the Bagley & Brazeau Joyriders Snowmobile Club, recently presented a check for $1,800 to Sue Kanack, president of the Brazeau Rescue Squad. The money was raised at the club’s annual landowner appreciation dinner and fundraiser, organized by Kathy Lorenz and Linda Houtger, club secretary, for the Brazeau Ambulance. For years the Bagley & Brazeau Joyriders Snowmobile Club has held a dinner and snowmobile ride.
