Mary Ellen Krizek, Mountain, has been named the 2014 Wabeno Unit No. 44 American Legion Auxiliary Member of the Year by President Kathleen Marsh. Krizek’s award will be presented at the annual Legion Awards Dinner on May 12 at the Legion clubhouse. Krizek has been a supporter of the Legion and Wabeno Auxiliary unit for six years, and her biggest impact has been as poppy chair for the last four years.

Cindy Tabbert, 73, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Friday evening, May 2, 2014, at a Green Bay hospital. She was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Milwaukee to Clyde and Elaine Gallun. On Dec. 12, 1985, she married Myron “Skip” Tabbert in Milwaukee. The couple retired in 1994 to rural Oconto Falls, where they made their home on the Oconto River.

Wayne Edward Pirlot, 68, of Gillett, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. He was born Sept. 13, 1946, to Evelen Early and Edward Pirlot. Wayne is survived by his wife, Marcella Pirlot, of Gillett, daughter, Jodie Lauersdorf, of Gillett, and son, Wade Pirlot, of Colorado. He has five grandchildren and a daughter- and son-in-law. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.

George Edward Muth, of Gillett, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at his home. The son of the late George Robert Muth and Berniece Jomen was born July 19, 1931, in Gillett. George attended Gillett Public Schools. In May 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until his discharge in April 1955. On Jan. 21, 1956, he married the former Bonnie Wilson in Gillett.

Donald Joseph Holtger, 85, Klondike, died early Sunday morning, April 27, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Oconto County to Roland and Emily (Burish) Holtger. Donald grew up in the Coleman area, where he attended school, graduating from high school with the Class of 1946. In 1948 he went with his good friend, Cal Compe, to Milwaukee, where they worked for Evinrude Outboard Motors.

Willard “Tom” Allen, 79, formerly of Manitowoc, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, at Bellin Heart Center, Green Bay. Tom was born in 1935 to the late Willard and Ellen (Race) Allen, of Little Suamico. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse taught by his Aunt Marie, graduated from Oconto Falls High School, and earned a biology degree from St.

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Gillett High School baseball team. The winless Tigers logged just four hits in a doubleheader against Peshtigo, ranked 10th in the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association poll, losing 16-2 and 17-2 in five innings in both games. The Oconto Falls High School girls captured the 64th annual Oconto Falls Invitational on Thursday despite injuries to two key performers. Sophomore Bailey Wolf won two events as the Panthers overcame the harsh weather and stiff competition at Memorial Field, winning the title by 4.5 points over Hilbert. Thanks in part to a no-hitter by junior Riley Gruetzmacher, the Oconto Falls High School baseball team Saturday split a doubleheader with Shawano at Memorial Field in Oconto Falls. The right-handed Gruetzmacher pitched all seven innings of the second game and led Oconto Falls (2-5, 1-5 Bay) to a 2-0 win. He struck out 11 batters and allowed only two walks. “He did really well,” Oconto Falls coach Charlie Rochon said.
