Moeller Ridge Nature Park in the town of Lessor has many things to offer people who love the outdoors. “When you walk back in the woods, there’s spectacular birds,” said Maddy Holmes, who keeps an eye on the park along with her husband, Ken, a supervisor for the town of Lessor and member of the park commission. The Shawano School District will receive an estimated 5.15 percent more in state aid in the 2014-15 school year than this year, according to estimates released this week by the Department of Public Instruction. More than half of Wisconsin’s 424 public school districts also will receive increases, according to the DPI. Clintonville falls to Omro The Clintonville Legion baseball team lost 3-0 to Omro in a nonleague game Wednesday in Omro. Parker Minel took the loss, throwing five innings, striking out seven, walking six and allowing three runs, two earned. Jaden Doornink pitched one inning and struck out two. Jake Van Allen went 2 for 3 to lead the Diamond Cats (4-3, 4-1 Central Wisconsin Legion). Isaac Reyes earned the win for Omro and had a hit.

Nancy L. Stronach, 63, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, in Shawano. Born on Feb. 2, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Wilber and Jeanette (Johnson) Stronach. Nancy worked as a hairdresser at Spurgeons, at Aarrowcast and at Maplelane. Nancy enjoyed helping out at the United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and talking on the phone.

Daniel E. Sazama, 81, of Shawano, passed away July 3, 2014, of pancreatic cancer. Born on Dec. 24, 1932, in the town of Seneca, he was the son the late James and Anna (Steinke) Sazama. Daniel graduated from Gresham High School in 1950. He enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. On Oct. 26, 1968, Daniel married Susan Peterson and they made their home in Shawano County, where they farmed. Daniel also worked at Pella Insurance for 33 years.

Alex Stephen Mastey, 20, passed away on July 2, 2014. Born on May 23, 1994, in Shawano, he was the son of Joe and Karyn (Vargo) Mastey. Alex was a 2012 graduate of the Shawano Community High School and was attending the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He enjoyed playing tennis as well as the guitar and the saxophone, but his passions were photography and snowboarding. Alex was consistently a very kind and gentle person.
