County hires new administrative coordinator

Shawano County will have a new administrative coordinator, just in time for Christmas. The County Board voted unanimously Wednesday to hire Brent Miller, of Green Bay, to take over the full-time position, effective Dec. 22. Miller will replace Tom Madsen, who has been the county’s part-time administrative coordinator since 2012. Twenty-two people applied for the position, and five were interviewed by an ad-hoc committee.
City tax bills going down
Shawano property owners will see their overall taxes go down a bit in 2015 despite a slight increase in the city’s portion of the bill. The Shawano Common Council on Wednesday approved a budget for next year that calls for a 3 percent hike in the levy, from $4.5 million to $4.64 million. Edna Lang
Edna Lang, 98, of Peshtigo, formerly of Suring, passed away in Marinette on Nov. 14, 2014, at Sun Valley Home surrounded by her family. She was born in Pound on March 3, 1916, to the late Henry and Lena Berth. Edna married John Lang on March 2, 1940, and she was a homemaker all her life.
Rob Jahnke
Rob “Robbie” Jahnke, 53, Abrams, died suddenly Monday evening, Nov. 17, 2014, at home near his beloved skid steer. The youngest of eight children was born Oct. 26, 1961, in Green Bay to Roy and M. Maxine (Janssen) Jahnke. Rob grew up on the family farm in Abrams, where life lessons of hard work, family and strong faith were established.
Carl Hansen
Carl “Charlie” Hansen, 75, Oconto Falls, died Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 2014, at home surrounded by his family following a short illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1939, in Shawano County to Carl and Mary (Egly) Hansen Sr. Carl attended Oconto Falls Public Schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1957. Gary Freeman
Gary Freeman, 69 (and going on 30), Pulaski, and formerly of the Krakow-Morgan area, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, as the result of a fall while loading in Chicago. The son of Merlyn and Sybil (Walker) Freeman was born May 3, 1945, in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Green Bay and Suamico. On Feb. 27, 1965, he married Kathy Bieda at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski.
