Shawano County authorities logged five new burglary complaints Tuesday, bringing the total to 11 since reports started coming on Friday. “They seem to be on the rise,” Sheriff’s Department Capt. Tom Tuma said. Though the crimes are still under investigation, Tuma said, there is a likelihood the break-ins are related.

The Shawano County Board amended its weapons policy Wednesday by a 24-3 vote, removing the fairgrounds from the list of prohibited county-owned areas and adding the two buildings where the Human Services Department operates. The fairgrounds had originally been removed from one paragraph of the original ordinance passed in 2012 listing prohibited places, but language remained in two other paragraphs, which made the fairgrounds a prohibited zone. June M. (Leiber) Norman, 93, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Maple Lane Healthcare Center in the town of Belle Plaine. June was born on June 20, 1921, the beloved daughter of the late Erwin E. and Gertrude (Schwartz) Leiber in St. Louis, Missouri.

Edith M. Hough, 81, of Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. Edith was born on April 5, 1933, in California, the daughter of the late Rev. Edwin and Edith N. (Gassner) Reinke. She was a graduate of the Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri. On June 28, 1964, Edith was united in marriage to Charles L. Hough in Chicago.

Carl E. Marten, 78, Mattoon, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at his home under the care of Le Royer Hospice. He was born on March 31, 1936, in Mattoon, the son of the late Charles and Adeline (Kowalske) Marten. On April 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Jane Kuehn in Shawano. She survives. Carl worked at Badger Northland in Kaukauna for 13 years. He then owned and operated Marten Lawn and Garden Center in Appleton for 34 years.

Gloria M. Peters, 57, of Cecil, passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Shawano Medical Center. Gloria was born on Nov. 20, 1957, in Green Bay, the daughter of the late John A. and Anna Marie (Stammers) Peters. She graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1975. Gloria along with her family own and operate Shotgun Eddy in Keshena.

Duane M. Kuehl, 64, of Clintonville, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 26, 2015, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, is assisting the family.
