Mary “Elaine” Niemann (Grindle), 78, Mountain, died peacefully April 14, 2015.
Elaine was born in Oconto to the late Frank and Leona Grindle, and lived her entire life on the family’s homestead in an area of Mountain referred to as Pine Stump.
Elaine graduated from Suring High School and married the love of her life, the late Doug Niemann, of Milwaukee.
Doug and Elaine moved for a brief time to Milwaukee ,where she worked as a beautician and he as a tile setter, quickly returning to Pine Stump and the family farm to raise a family and create a life. Always working side by side, Elaine and Doug’s careers spanned many vocations from farmers, to horse ranching and trail rides, to remodeling contractors, and finally Elaine built a successful real estate firm, where she devoted her time to joining families with the perfect homes and recreational properties and purchasing those no one wanted and renovating them back to life.
Elaine is survived by her four children, Kim Wozniak, Kris Niemann, Kurt (Lori) Niemann, Kari (Mike) Niemann-Fuss; grandchildren, Crystal, Jesse, Spencer, Reece, Cody, Claudia and Nikkole; and three great-grandchildren, Walker, Willa and Casheous. Elaine also leaves behind her friend and partner to the end, Clarence “Butch” Simon.
Elaine dedicated her life to her family, friends and community. She loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with Doug and her late sister, Joyce, and husband Bill Wiex. She and Butch loved to take long rides on the back roads looking for berries and wildlife. Her greatest joy came working side by side with her children to build their family cottage in memory of Doug on Grindle Lake.
A service and celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at McCauslin Brook Golf Course in Lakewood on Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m., where we will share stories, Old Fashioneds and lunch. Just a few of her favorite things.
