8 Suring FBLA students advance to state contest
Suring Future Business Leaders of America attended the Wisconsin FBLA Region III Leadership Conference on Feb. 7 at Two Rivers High School. The members took part in two general sessions, competitive events, workshops and a talent competition. In the competitive events, the chapter finished in 11th place; 29 chapters participated.
11 Panthers advance to sectional
Eleven Oconto Falls High School wrestlers will have an opportunity to capture a sectional title on their home turf Saturday. Five Panthers earned regional titles and six finished as runnersup Saturday at the WIAA Division 2 regional in Clintonville. All of the first-place winners were seeded No. 1 for the sectional Saturday in Oconto Falls. “I am very happy with our results,” Panthers coach Mike Kinzinger said.

Five Gillett/Suring high school wrestlers qualified for the WIAA Division 3 sectional tournament following their regional performances Saturday at Coleman. Coleman captured the regional title with 264.5 points and advanced to the team sectionals.

Loretta M. Salzman
Loretta M. Salzman, 85, of Tigerton, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Homme Home of Wittenberg. Loretta Mabel Salzman was born on Aug. 21, 1929, in the town of Morris, Shawano County, to Louis and Elizabeth (Jolin) Salzman. She attended school and was raised in the Tigerton area. Loretta was an excellent speller and she was a gifted artist who liked to draw people. She had an extraordinary memory for relative’s birthdates.
SCHS alum facing difficult, undiagnosed ailment
Brittany Sperberg is a fairly well-known musician in Shawano circles, especially among fans of the annual Shazz jazz festival. The trombone player and 2011 Shawano Community High School graduate is one of the key coordinators for the festival, and she also came up with its name.
School Notes
Gresham Community School The Student Council sold Crush sodas for students to buy to send to others for Valentine’s Day. The seventh grade went to Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya from Wednesday through Friday to learn about the outdoors and team-building skills. The fifth-grade participated in a Math Football League competition.
