Jeanette “Neddy” R. Schinko, 76, of Watertown, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at the Watertown Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, Watertown, with the Rev. Todd Iverson of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Milwaukee. Relatives and friends may gather to pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday from 2 p.m.

Johnny F. Doxtator, 75, of Gresham, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, in Wausau. Johnny was born on Nov. 18, 1939, in the town of Red Springs, the son of the late Abner and Emma (Mohawk) Doxtator. Johnny proudly served in the United States Army. On March 10, 1968, Johnny was united in marriage to Virginia Swamp, and they lived in Chicago for many years before returning to Gresham in 1988.

Beginning in early March, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department will offer several training courses in the interest of promoting personal and community safety. The courses include training in concealed carry, self-defense and providing emergency medical assistance. “In today’s world the Sheriff’s Office believes it is essential that our communities are confident in their ability to protect themselves and assist others when needed,” Sheriff Adam

The Waupaca County sheriff says he’s optimistic that investigators will solve two murder cases from 1992 and 1978 in the next year. Sheriff Brad Hardel told Post-Crescent Media that investigators have made progress on both cold cases. In 1992, 23-year-old Tanna Togstad and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Timothy Mumbrue, were found stabbed to death in her Royalton farmhouse.

Nancy Prokash is getting ready to start a new chapter in her life. The Shawano resident recently retired from her job working for the state as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. “I have been able to do what I’ve done because I’ve put my trust in God,” she said. Prokash was born with a severe form of spina bifida, which greatly limited her mobility.

Dana Tennie, owner of Hardcore Fitness in Clintonville, placed in the top three in two races at the 2015 SoCal Spartan Races in Temecula, California, last month. Tennis placed second in her age group of elite racers Jan. 24 in the Super Spartan Obstacle Mud Run and Endurance Race and third Jan. 25 in the Spartan Sprint. Of the Spartan Super race’s 3,866 racers, 56 competed as elite women.

On the name alone, it seems like not such a great deal for the fish. The FishSticks Project sounds like some perch and walleye will soon be relocating under a pile of tartar sauce. Actually, the initiative undertaken by the Belle Plaine Sportsman’s Club could be the best thing that ever happened to the aquatic vertebrates at the Cloverleaf chain of lakes.

Students in the Shawano School District will attend classes six fewer days in the 2015-16 school year than this year. The rub is that they will be in school for a little longer when they are there. Students will attend classes for 173 days next year.
