Every year The Cottages on Golden Pond in Shawano employees select a co-worker who goes above and beyond every day in helping take care of the Cottages family.

The Suring School District plans to have a new principal on the staff in time for the start of the 2015-16 school year, following the July 23 resignation of Steve Huisman. Preliminary interviews are scheduled this week, and the Board of Education is scheduled to interview the top two or three candidates next week. Huisman served as Suring’s kindergarten to grade 12 principal from 2013-15.

Authorities Tuesday were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people in what’s being described as a murder-suicide over the weekend in the town of Gillett. Brian J. Cleary, 51, and Paige A. Linsmeyer, 27, both died from single gunshot wounds to the head from a small caliber handgun, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office said. Cleary was found dead at the scene when deputies arrived about 8:20 p.m.

The picturesque, woodsy area at the end of Company Lake Road in the town of Oconto Falls belies the true nature of an abandoned residence designated as an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund cleanup site. Cleanup began July 27 at the former home and electronic waste recycling operation of Arthur and Ruth Ann Giese, 6509 County Road K.

An Oconto-area farm hosted a two-county agricultural event Friday bringing farm families and their employees together to socialize and learn about dealing with conflict. Dean and Wanda Good, owners of the Dewgood Holsteins farm, hosted the event, which drew an estimated 250 people. The social began at 6 p.m.

Little Hearts for Life will hold its fifth annual corn roast from 12-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at Joel and Ginny O’Harrow’s house, 8187 Gray Lake Road, Oconto Falls. All proceeds from the corn roast go toward pediatric heart research through Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
