In the past, whenever I’ve written about books, I’ve gotten some negative feedback from readers who’ve told me these are their least favorite columns. But I’m going to clench my teeth, step bravely into the breach and take a chance. I’m going to write about a book, “Ordinary Grace,” by William Kent Krueger. I’m a huge fan of Krueger’s because of his series of books featuring a Northern Minnesota “crime-fighter,” Cork O’Connor.

Robert Ernest “Bob” Shellman, 92, former editor/publisher of The Oconto County Times-Herald and veteran of Patton’s 3rd Army during the second World War, died of natural causes Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls. Bob Shellman entered military service in 1942 after a semester at the University of Wisconsin, where he played trombone in the marching band.

Tina M. Ferge, 50, of Clintonville, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 13, 2015, at her home following a battle with cancer. Tina was born on Jan. 22, 1965, in Oconto Falls. She was the daughter of Claire and Elaine (Paholke) Hertwig. As a young girl at the age of 6, Tina moved with her family from Gillett to New London, where she graduated from high school in 1983. After graduation Tina was united in marriage to Rick Ferge on Nov. 3, 1984.

The Friends of the Library annual book sale will be held at the Oconto Falls Community Library during Falls Fest. The sale is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 26, at the library, 251 N. Main St. The sale will continue the following week, during regular library hours. Friends of the Library members can shop the sale from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.

High-flying adventure and down-to-earth opportunities will be a part of the seventh annual fly-in sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Warbirds of America Badger Squadron 6. Saturday’s event will take place at the headquarters of the Badger Squadron, the Oconto-J. Douglas Bake Municipal Airport in Oconto.
