On Sept. 18, Clarence Robert Frederick Korth passed away peacefully with his family by his side just 10 days before his 89th birthday. Clarence was born in Embarrass on Sept. 28, 1926, to Emil and Bertha (Barkow) Korth. Bertha died when Clarence was only 2 months old, and he was raised for a short time by his Aunt Ida and Uncle Robert Kriewaldt until his father married Agnes Krubsack. Clarence attended Embarrass Grade School.

Vera Jane Drengler, 92, Shawano, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, in Neenah. She was born on Oct. 11, 1922, in Mellen to the late Clyde and Mary Jane (Staples) Simmonds. In 1925, Vera’s family moved to Ironwood, Michigan. Vera attended St. Ambrose Grade and High School, where she graduated as her high school class valedictorian in 1940.

Vivien Hoffmann, 71, of Shawano, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, in Rochester, Minnesota. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Elva Kathleen Magee, 92, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, in Shawano. Elva was born in a single-room log cabin on July 12, 1923, in Lena, to the late Walter and Esther (Schutte) Muck. She attended school in Angelica and Pulaski. On Feb. 26, 1944, Elva was united in marriage to Elwood Magee in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2007. Elva lived in Green Bay, Angelica and moved to Shawano in 1950.

LaVerne H. “Monk” Molitor, 87, of Cloverleaf Lakes, town of Belle Plaine, passed away Friday morning, Sept. 18, 2015, at Evergreen Care Center in Shawano. Monk was born on Oct. 23, 1927, in Aurora, Illinois, a son of the late Alfred and Ursula (Mosher) Molitor. He attended schools in Aurora, graduating from East Aurora High School in 1944.

A 51-year-old town of Pella woman who inadvertently dropped off more than she expected at a Shawano recycling center last week had her lost item returned before she knew it was missing, according to Shawano police. The item was an envelope with $2,000 that had fallen out of her purse while she was dropping off aluminum cans at Lakeland Industries, 504 Lakeland Road. The envelope was lost on Sept.

The family behind Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats is working to clear the way for a large commercial development near the Ho-Chunk Casino in western Shawano County. Residents of the Shawano School District have given their support for a new budget that raises taxes by $140,000 this year. About 30 people participated in the district’s annual meeting Monday and voted in favor of a proposed $13.1 million property tax levy to fund schools in the 2015-16 school year.
