Zeitler’s 6 TDs lead Tigers to playoffs

It’s just the game the Gillett High School football team needed. After suffering back-to-back blowout losses, the Tigers were looking for a bounce-back game at Suring. Panthers rally with undefeated L-C
Coming in with an undefeated record in North Eastern Conference play, the Luxemburg-Casco High School volleyball team was confident. So was host Oconto Falls. The Panthers gave L-C all it could handle, but the Spartans took advantage of strong serving and some Oconto Falls miscues in scoring a 3-1 victory (25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19) Thursday. “It was a great match; we battled back and forth,” Oconto Falls coach Rochell Otto said.

Reckless driving report leads to OWI, drug charges
A man was arrested Sunday night for fifth-offense operating while intoxicated after authorities responded to a report of a reckless driver on County Road CC near state Highway 22 in the town of Belle Plaine. Witnesses stated the vehicle was all over the road, then crossed Highway 22 into the ditch near Boarder’s Inn and came to a rest in the parking lot about 7 p.m.

This is the third year that The Pink Ladies, five women from the Wittenberg and Birnamwood area, have held “Pretty in Pink: Nights of Art & Awareness” as a fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. “Everyone is affected by cancer,” said Laura Hunt, one of The Pink Ladies. Linda Trevarthen is a member of SAM25, which is a nonprofit group working to ensure everyone in the Shawano area has a meal and a safe place to sleep every night, access to medical care they can afford and is aware of the community resources for those affected by poverty. The group is in the process of opening a shelter, which will be named SAM’s House. Trevarthen was born in Ironwood, Michigan, and graduated from Ironwood High School.

It is always fun to reunite with cousins
As a child, I spent time going to parties with my parents. There was no such thing as a babysitter. If a neighbor was having a party, the whole family went. More to the point, if there was a party given by an aunt or uncle, the whole family went. In the years of my childhood, there wasn’t television, so visiting was done often, and it seemed everyone celebrated birthdays with a party.
