Laura A. Dunnam, 52, of the town of Richmond, went home to her God in Heaven on Monday, March 24, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Nov. 25, 1961, in Shawano, she was the daughter of Frederick and Anna May (Case) Opperman.
While attending Shawano High School, Laura played volleyball and was the first female from Shawano to receive a sports scholarship. After graduating from high school, Laura continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. On Aug. 9, 1985, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Dunnam at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in Shawano. After marriage Laura worked at Appleton Medical Center until 2000 when she began working at Shawano Medical Center as an exercise physiologist.
Laura was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed coaching youth volleyball. Her family was most important to her, and she loved the family vacations to the cabin each summer. She enjoyed family holidays and always had a great time with her brother and sisters. Laura was a loving wife, caring mother and a compassionate person who never complained and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Laura is survived by her husband of 28 years, Chuck; three children, Cassandra (Zak) Weber, of Illinois, Bryan Dunnam, of Shawano, Erika Dunnam, of Shawano; her parents, Fred and Anna May Opperman, of Shawano; two sisters, Jordan Opperman, of Shawano, and Sue (Gary) Zaddack, of Shawano; and a brother, Mike (Cathy) Opperman, of Shawano.
Laura was preceded in death by her sister, Carmella.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in the St. Jakobi Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Richmond. Visitation will be held at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the town of Richmond on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and at St. James Lutheran Church on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
