The Peaceful Palettes Arts and Crafts show drew more than 500 visitors to Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano last year.
Show organizers expect another good turnout for this year’s show Friday and Saturday.
“We thought it was very successful,” event chairman John Olson said. “We want to make it an annual event. All the vendors from last year wanted to come back.”
Close to 30 artists and craft people will be selling their paintings, wood carvings, sculpture, photography and quilts, to name just a few.
“We didn’t intend it to be a moneymaker, but more of a social thing,” said Gary Gurnee, artist and church member who also runs the Peace through Art Program at the church. “But we really did have good sales.”
The show started with the art program participants. Food sales from the show are used to buy supplies for the artists.
“We go through a lot of supplies,” Gurnee said.
The women’s group sells chicken dumpling soup, and the men’s group sells barbecue and hot dogs.
“A lot of people donated baked goods,” Olson said.
Organizers intentionally scheduled the event on Mother’s Day weekend. “What better place to buy art from the heart for your mother,” Olson said.
New vendors are still welcome during set-up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
“If they come in on Friday, a spot will be found for them,” Olson said.
Artists are upstairs. Crafters are downstairs, which can be accessed with the elevator.
“Gradually, it’s going to get better as we go,” Olson said.
