Thelma Lucille Goese

Thelma L. Goese, 82, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014. Thelma was born on Dec. 27, 1931, to Leonard and Verna Parsons in Polar. She became a child of God when she was baptized at home on Jan. 17, 1932. She was confirmed in her Christian faith on Aug. 19, 1943. Her life displayed her faith in her confirmation. Hebrews 13:5: “Be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” She married Dave on Oct. 24, 1953, and moved to Milwaukee to start their new life. She graduated from Luther Hospital in Eau Claire in July 1953 as a registered nurse. In 1976, they moved to Germantown, where Thelma worked as an extremely caring nurse, ending her career as the director of nursing at Bradley Convalescent Home in 1991. In 1969, the couple purchased land on Legend Lake in Keshena, constructed a cottage and built many wonderful memories with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. They moved to their cottage home in 1991, spending their summers on the lake and winters in their home in Florida. Thelma loved tending to her flower gardens at the lake. She took great pleasure living on a lake, sailing on their sailboat and enjoying multiple water-sports. In 2009, they sold their cottage home and purchased a condo in Shawano. Thelma and Dave loved to golf and were members at Pine Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin and at Brookside Bluffs Golf Course in Zolfo Springs, Fla. They purchased a home in Florida in 1992 and had made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed canoeing rivers in Florida along with alligators. Thelma enjoyed playing cards, teaching ceramic classes in Milwaukee, knitting and sewing, and making beautiful porcelain dolls with her special friends in Florida. Her special hobby was to have lots of parties, playing practical jokes on people, and she passed this talent on to her children. You never knew what she would do next. Thelma also enjoyed volunteer work at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, and volunteered with the Shawano County hospice program. She participated in the evangelism program with Dave at their church in Florida. Many seminary students and student teachers lived with them throughout the years at their home in Germantown.
