The Jumpin’ June Jamboree will jump-start the summer festival season in Shawano with a car show, crafts, children’s activities and live music Saturday.
Sponsored by the Shawano Business Improvement District, the 10th annual jamboree on Main Street features a variety of attractions for people of all ages, but for many visitors the spotlight is on the cars.
“The cars will be anywhere from antique to muscle cars,” said Marisa Rycroft, BID coordinator.
Trophies will be awarded in three classes (classic, antique and muscle cars), in addition to People’s Choice and Mayor’s Choice awards.
Attendees will determine the People’s Choice winner, and Mayor Lorna Marquardt will select the Mayor’s Choice winner. A committee will select the other three winners.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church will coordinate children’s activities at the jamboree. There will be an old-fashioned goldfish toss, Frisbee tic-tac-toe and more.
“We are working on a couple other activities, including a couple of surprises,” said Bailey Hansen, the church’s youth minister.
The petting zoo also returns to the jamboree following a hiatus from the 2013 event.
Alpacas, which resemble the llama and originated in the ancient Incan civilization of South America, will make an appearance.
There also will be a raffle sponsored by local businesses featuring 40 bicycles (20 boys, 20 girls) for the children, who must be present to win.
Live music at the jamboree will include a performance by the Shawano Community Middle School orchestra.
The event is held in conjunction with Shawano’s sixth annual Rhubarb Festival, located at Heritage Park. Horse-drawn carriages will be available to transport guests between the events.
