Eugene Harry Giessel, 86, of Tilleda, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, in Appleton. Born on May 31, 1928, in the town of Seneca, he was the son of the late Helmuth and Amanda (Tews) Giessel.
After graduating from high school, Eugene enlisted with the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Other than his years in service, Eugene lived his entire life in the town of Seneca, where he worked for Tilleda Hardware for more than 50 years. On June 13, 1964, he was united in marriage to Florence Wudstrack in the town of Grant. Eugene was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda, where he served as an usher and on the church council. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, piling wood and collecting coins.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Florence, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Otto and Rosie Wudstrack, of Tigerton, Judy Wudstrack, of Green Bay, Edward and Susann Wudstrack, of Marion, Leo and Joyce Wudstrack, of Tigerton, LeRoy and Susan Wudstrack, of Tigerton, and Steven and Eldora Whitehouse, of Two Rivers.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arlie and James; six sisters, Vernie, Mona, Ruth, Lillian, June, Betty; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence and Harold Wurdstrack.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by Gresham American Legion Post 390. Visitation will held at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
