Fun at Franklin Park

Bubbles float through the air and pop as children have fun on the grass as part of Fun For Kids Sake on May 9 at Franklin Park, provided courtesy of the College of Menominee Nation. Over a dozen businesses and organizations provided a variety of activities for children to take part in.

• Judge Katherine Sloma approved a prosecution motion to dismiss 2024 charges against Justin Daniel Lehman, 38, Peshtigo, on May 5, the day before he had been scheduled to stand trial, then refiled the charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Sloma scheduled an initial appearance for June 16.

• Isaac A. Bell, 20, Eagle River, had his probation revoked Feb. 6 from a 2024 conviction on misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct. The battery charge had been amended from a felony in a plea agreement. Judge Michael Judge sentenced him May 4 to nine months in county jail.

100+ Men Who Care hold launch meeting

Members voting at the inaugural meeting of Shawano County’s 100+ Men Who Care awarded Lakeland Industries a donation of more than $5,000 May 7.

The group, with 51 men at the first meeting, is based on the locally popular 100+ Women Who Care group.

WBHS Student Senate earns national award

Almost 500 schools were recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals recently, and only one of those was from Wisconsin.

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School Student Senate received a National Gold Council of Excellence Award, with officials noting that the school provides the student leaders with opportunities to make a difference in the community and beyond.
