Local races were decided today throughout Oconto County. Here are the unofficial results.
School Board
One incumbent, Jan Stranz, was re-elected to the Oconto Falls School Board, earning 464 votes, and a second, James Spang, was defeated, with 297 votes. Stephanie Leanna Wijas will join the board after tallying 379 votes. Duane Rogatski, the fourth candidate, received 235 votes.
For the Suring School Board, incumbent Eugene School Jr. successfully reclaimed his position representing the towns of Bagley, Maple Valley and Spruce with 206 votes, beating Erika Olson Schindel, with 176. Two other incumbents ran unopposed and were re-elected: Cathleen Lundgren for the towns of Doty, Mountain and Riverview seat, and Mark Strehlow for the town of How seat.
County Board
In contested County Board races, incumbent Vernon Zoeller lost his seat to Joyce Stoegbauer 67-43 in District 8, which covers parts of Abrams and Pensaukee. Zoeller has served for 14 of the last 16 years.
Incumbent Terry Brazeau held his position against challenger David Rakowski, 117-91, in District 27, which covers Brazeau and part of Spruce. It will be Brazeau’s fourth two-year term.
Darrel Pagel, with 79 votes, also retained his seat in District 2 in Little Suamico. Thomas Kussow received 46 votes.
City officials
Oconto Mayor Victoria Bostedt defeated Ron Hayes, 735-617. Also returning to office are three incumbents, Lauren Resch, 827 votes; Al Schreiber, 678; and Roger Reed, 659; along with Darrell Anderson, 585. Other candidates in the eight-person race were Jodi Bostedt, 566 votes; John Wittkopf, 554; Oralee Braunsdorf Martin, 540; and Shelley Rosenfeldt, 444.
There were no contested races in the city of Gillett, where two incumbents and two write-ins were elected. Mayor Irene Drake returns for a second term after 24 years as alderperson, and Nanette Mohr will return as alderperson for Ward 3. Successful write-in candidates were Marie Blaser, Ward 1, and Terry Nelson, Ward 2.
Oconto Falls Mayor Brad Rice will also return to office, earning 149 votes, along with incumbent aldermen Jay Kostreva, 71 votes, District 1; Marty Coopman, 24 votes, District 2; and George Stuckey, 54 votes, District 3.
Village Trustee
Three incumbents will return as Suring village trustees: Cindy Zahn, with 77 votes; Randy Schuettpelz, 74; and Rachel Otradovec, 69. Challenger Angela Whiting received 26 votes.
Voters in the village of Lena elected two incumbents, Judy Patenaude and Craig LeFebre, and a former trustee, Larry Belongia, as a successful write-in candidate. Vote counts were not available Tuesday night.
Results also were not available Tuesday night in the Gillett and Oconto school board races.
