WAMSCO receives lakes/rivers award

Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano Counties (WAMSCO) was awarded the Wisconsin Lakes Stewardship Award for Excellence in Public Engagement at the 2025 Wisconsin Lakes and Rivers Convention. Since its founding in 2014, WAMSCO has grown as an organization in Shawano and Menominee counties as both a watershed management group and educator on the importance of area waters. “This group is critical to have in this area as it is the first ever group to be completely dedicated to watershed management,” said Brenda Nordin, who nominated the group for the award. WAMSCO continues to host a variety of education events for both the youth and general public in both communities. These include school tree plantings, water quality sampling activities, kiddie parades, Brunch on the Farm presentations, various events with Lakeland Industries, an annual Where’s WAMSCO scavenger hunt and more. WAMSCO is a nonprofit organization formed in 2014 and incorporated in 2016 to help protect and restore our water resources within these two counties. For information, email wamsco@gmail.com.
