New North broadband overview map now available for use by anyone

A new interactive tool – the New North broadband overview map – is now available for use by anyone. Developed collaboratively with community-based partners throughout the region, it provides a means for planning through the use of localized data in a visual, easy-to-understand manner. Michigan man charged with stealing copper wire, drug trafficking
A high-speed chase that ended in a vehicle rollover Jan. 4 led to an investigation into an Upper Michigan man who has now been charged with stealing and scrapping copper wire and trafficking in methamphetamine and other drugs. BOYS BASKETBALL: Gillett now has six-game winning streak
Friday, Jan. 19 Gillett Gillett extended its winning streak to six games with a 65-56 Marinette & Oconto Conference win over Niagara. Niagara’s 36-29 second half wasn’t enough to overcome the 36-20 deficit it faced at the break. Gillett improved to 8-1 in league play (10-4 overall) and is tied for first place with Crivitz. Jesse DeBauch led Gillett with 25 points.

Shawano’s girl wrestlers hit string of tough opponents
With a limited participation against 103 other teams at Wausau West, Shawano’s wrestlers captured fourth-, seventh- and eighth-place finishes Jan. 20. Courtney Schenk was Shawano’s fourth-place finisher. “She did a great job opening up her offensive attacks and pushing the pace in her matches,” coach Mike Homan said. “We talked last week about how she needed to open up her offense, and that is exactly what she did today.

Dolores M. Christensen
Dolores M. Christensen, 94, formerly of Pulaski, Gillett and Cecil, passed away on Saturday evening, Jan. 13, 2024, at Thornton Manor Nursing Care Center in Lansing, Iowa. She was born at home on Sept. 9, 1929, in Oconto County, daughter of the late Oren and Helen (McEwing) Gilbertson. Dolores was baptized at a Lutheran parsonage in Shawano County on Oct. 26, 1931, and received her confirmation on June 25, 1944.

Verla Christopherson
Verla Christopherson, 81, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Wednesday evening, Jan. 17, 2024, at home of natural causes. She was born Jan. 4, 1943, in the Town of Spruce to Adolph and Hellen (Krejcarek) Durocher. Verla grew up in the Lena area where she attended public schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1961. On Oct. 6, 1962, she married Alan Christopherson at St. John Catholic Church in Coleman.
