Lena’s Eva Brooks has been named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 5 All-State Team. Brooks led Lena (28-3) to a state runner-up finish in the program’s first state tournament appearance since 1991. The 6-1 forward averaged 19.8 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.7 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game for coach Tim Goldschmidt and the Wildcats. Brooks will enter her senior year with 1,153 career points.

To the editor: The Wisconsin State Legislature adjourned for 2024. The Assembly closed out last month and the Senate last week. Among five bipartisan bills passed by the Assembly, which were not acted on by the Senate, is one which would allow election clerks to count absentee ballots before or concurrent with in-person voting.

Lakeland University will relocate its Green Bay Center to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College’s (NWTC) main campus. The center, one of six that Lakeland has in Wisconsin, will be housed in the College of Business building (entrance 3) and will include an office presence and dedicated classroom. Through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, FEMA has awarded $872,894 to the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin for an underground power line conversion project. The project will convert a series of overhead copper weld power lines to underground aluminum power lines. Since their installation in the 1950s, these lines have sustained repeated outages from natural hazards.

Honey production from producers with five or more colonies in Wisconsin totaled 2.79 million pounds in 2023, according to the United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Honey Report. This was 4% lower than the 2.92 million pounds produced in 2022. The number of honey producing colonies in the state, at 62,000, was up 9,000 from 2022.

The Wisconsin Legislature is sending nearly $366 million of public funds to renovate and update American Family Field, where the Milwaukee Brewers play.
