New faces excited for next chapter in Green Bay

While the Green Bay Packers overperformed last season and finished a game short of the NFC Championship, general manager Brian Gutekunst and his staff deemed it appropriate to make some changes. Among those changes were the signings of two young players who are expected to make a major impact that may help Green Bay get over the hump.

Packers need help at several positions
The Green Bay Packers’ offseason has been a roller coaster ride. The 2023 season ended after the Packers outplayed the San Francisco 49ers for the better part of three and a half quarters. Unfortunately, the game is four quarters long, and the Packers house of horrors stung them again as they went home with a 24-21 loss. The future, however, looks bright.

Friends of Suring library planning rummage sales
The Friends of Suring Area Public Library’s annual rummage sales will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 9-11 and May 16-18 at the How Township Garage, 12896 State Highway 32, Suring. The rummage sales will include clothing, household items, furniture, jewelry, collectibles and gently used items. All proceeds from the Friends’ sales will support programs and services at the library. Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Apply now for 2024 elk season
The application period for the 2024 elk hunt is open through May 31. New this year, the Black River Elk Range will be open to hunting for the first time since elk were reintroduced to the state, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Once widespread, elk were eliminated from Wisconsin in the 1880s due to unregulated hunting and habitat loss. Reintroduction efforts began in 1995 by releasing 25 elk into the Clam Lake Elk
Kautza reelected Shawano County Board chairman
Shawano County Supervisor Tom Kautza was reelected April 16 to another two-year term as chairman of the Shawano County Board. Kautza has been on the board for 12 years and has served as chairman the last four years. He defeated Supervisor Theresa Serrano 17-9. Supervisors Randy Young and Kathy Luebke were nominated but declined to be on the ballot. All elections at the board’s organizational meeting needed a majority of 14 votes for the winner.
Hovde stops in Shawano during Senate quest
Eric Hovde, the man hoping to unseat two-term U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, stopped in Shawano on April 15 to seek support from the Shawano County Republican Party as he hopes to help return the Senate to GOP control. No one else has declared candidacy on the Republican side, so Hovde’s full efforts are expected to be on Baldwin and her record over the last 12 years.
