Shawano County Administrative Coordinator Jim Davel warned the Shawano County Public Safety Committee of “project creep” at its May 1 meeting when discussing the costs associated with remodeling the showers at the county jail. The committee was asked to approve the highest of three bids and then add several thousand dollars for new shower fixtures and other incidentals.

The Shawano Hockey League remains without a contract for the use of the Crawford Center. Members of the Shawano County Public Property Committee tabled consideration of a lease at its May 2 meeting. Instead, they will first meet with a prospective buyer of the property, which is owned by the county at the fairgrounds. The hockey league continues to push for a long-term lease of five years, as was generally the case in the past.

Sigi Fust, a devoted wife, mother and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024, at the age of 80. Born in Neustaedhein-Lautenbach, Germany, she was on of nine siblings in a close-knit family. In her early 20s, she found love and married David Fust, embarking on a life adventure that led them to the United States.

The very notion of Mother’s Day conjures up deep-seated, fond memories of my precious momma. A complex woman, she dearly and fiercely loved all of us and especially my father. Meeting for the first time in a one-room schoolhouse as children, my mom and dad married on June 3, 1943. The angels came for Mom on Jan. 24, 2009. Never wanting to be apart, Dad followed Mom into their heavenly mansion a mere four months later, on April 24.
