IPSI takes look at land-centered learning

Summer hummers, bummers around the corner
While getting ready for Memorial Day weekend and a houseful of family coming to Otter Run, I took a mid-morning break and headed out to sit a bit on the porch swing, cup of coffee in hand. It was an absolutely beautiful day. The lake was calm and the trees almost fully budded. I was enchanted by a swallowtail butterfly checking out my white lilac bushes, truly savoring the moment.

Morel of the story can be quite delicious
There’s a hunting season between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day that requires no hunting license and no weapon. There’s no bag limit, and you don’t have to gut the quarry. The elusive morsels have some of the best camouflage on earth, and they can be impossible to find — until, like a white-tailed deer, they are suddenly just there. Mining pit gets county approval
Jason and Jill Bergner will expand their non-metallic mining operation to include about 12 acres now that they have a conditional use permit from the Shawano County Planning, Development and Zoning Committee. The Bergners are currently mining less than an acre on their property at County Road BB and Olson Road in the Town of Green Valley. Using less than an acre does not require a conditional use permit.

Tree surgeon helps organize locals’ greenspace
For approximately four years, Tim Peterson, owner of Tree Surgeon LLC based in New London, has been putting trees on the ground. Surgeon is an appropriate descriptive term for his business as he takes care of pretty much any tree services, be it pruning, thinning or removing. He does not eliminate stumps. Peterson said he started “swinging the saw” when he was about 12 years old with his dad up in the woods.

William G. Drometer
William (Bill) G. Drometer, 82, passed away in the early morning of Friday, May 24, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina, due to complications associated with a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Born July 16, 1941, in Red Wing, Minnesota, he was the son of the late George William and Lois Haley Drometer. A memorial Mass will be held on June 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St.
