City looks to redevelop old Hardee’s lot
Oconto Falls officials are working with state and county agencies toward redevelopment of the long-vacant former Hardee’s restaurant and a former gas station on state Highway 22 near the northwest city limits. City Administrator Peter Wills gave an update on the effort during the city council’s June 11 monthly meeting. “I’m not looking for action right now, mainly trying to bring you up to speed,” Wills said.

Six area athletes named to all-star basketball game
The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association will hold its 2024 All-Star Games later this month at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. Two area boys and four girls are among those students chosen to participate. The Girls All-Star Games will be held June 26, while the Boys All-Star Games will be held June 27. Gillett’s Aydin Franti and Ben Matczak are on the boys roster.

Navarino pounds out 21 hits in win over Nichols
June 16 Waupaca 14, Cecil 3 Cecil could not match the power of Waupaca as they lost 14-3 in Dairyland League baseball action. Waupaca Lakemen opened the scoring in the second after Ryan Dayton singled, scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Walker Smith doubled and Alex Pankratz tripled, each scoring one run.

• A jury on May 7 found Julie L. Schlichting, 50, Shawano, guilty of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. On June 10, Judge Katherine Sloma withheld sentence and placed her on three years of probation with conditions including 120 days in county jail. • Shawn D. Clark, 45, Aniwa, pleaded no contest June 13 to a sex registry violation.

Proceedings of June 14 • Javier Lashun Dixon, 31, Sobieski, pleaded no contest to pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of bail jumping, in connection with an incident that occurred Sept. 20, 2023, as well as two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct in connection with incidents that occurred June 15 and June 20, 2023. Related felony charges were dismissed in a plea agreement.
