More than three years after starting a home-based construction business, Dennis H. Bontrager finally has proper approval from Shawano County officials. But it didn’t come without some controversy over his new plans to add a parking area for his equipment. Bontrager had another contractor bring in fill to create a parking area for his construction equipment.

4-H Members from Marinette, Oconto, and Shawano counties joined together at Marinette County Camp Bird for a residential camp experience in June. Ninety campers, 30 counseling staff, and 15 adult staff consisting of University of Wisconsin-Extension professionals, health professionals, lifeguard, and 4-H volunteers were present. The 4-H counseling staff consisted of teens from across the three counties, with training and team-building activities

Hillside Assembly of God will hold Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure from July 29 through Aug. 2 from 6-8:30 p.m. On this adventure, kids won’t find any boring reminders of tedious schoolwork. The program will provide fun, memorable Bible-learning activities for kids of all ages.

Robert “Bob” L. Gerndt, 82, of Suring, passed away July 4, 2024, peacefully at home in the farmhouse where he was born and lived his entire life. Bob was born June 7, 1942, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Leland and Norma (Nelson) Gerndt of Suring. Bob attended Suring Public School, graduating with the class of 1960. Bob married Barbara J. Buchert on Dec. 26, 1964, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.

Lawrence “Red” Brenwall, age 84, of Suring, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Serenity Gardens Assisted Living Center. Red was born in Phelps on Aug. 6, 1939, to the late John and Leona (Van Houton) Brenwall, the oldest of four children. He graduated from Phelps High School and married Sandra Firgens on Nov. 3, 1962, at the Evangelical United Brethern Church in Hayes.

Nansi Lee Casper (Miller), age 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on May 3, 1954, in Tucson, Arizona, to Herbert and Carole Miller. The oldest of three children, she was an independent woman who paved her own way in the world.
