Wisconsin had 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 21, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The week was dry relative to previous weeks, allowing for a productive week for farmers. Fieldwork included harvesting hay and small grains. Topsoil moisture condition rated 3% short, 79% adequate and 18% surplus.

It is with heavy hearts but gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Lorraine Marie Olson, 89, who died peacefully at home on July 22, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Lorraine was born June 20, 1935, in Oconto, to Rupert and Erma (Kruger) Rasmussen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband, Russell, and brother, Allen Rasmussen. Lorraine was a graduate of Oconto High School, class of 1954.

Gordon R. Schlender, 92, of Wittenberg, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Weston. Gordon was born on July 23, 1932, in the Town of Wyoming, Waupaca County, the son of Fred and Alma (Beyersdorf) Schlender. On Feb. 28, 1953, Gordon was united in marriage to Agnes Thorson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Morris.
