Pam Leigh Jensen, of Kronenwetter, formerly of Shawano, lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024. Pam died in her home surrounded by her family and her beloved pets. She was born Pam Leigh Teckam on June 25, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska. Pam was the daughter of Marian (Foreman) Teckam of Shawano and the late Harven Teckam.

A 68-year-old Gresham man was rescued nearly six hours after his car crashed into the river near state Highway 29 on Aug.

A Bowler woman was being held on $150,000 cash bond after she allegedly set a fire that burned down a house in the Town of Bartelme on Aug. 17. Amanda J. Bowman, 47, was charged in Shawano-Menominee Circuit Court on Aug. 21 with arson, attempted first-degree intentional homicide and six counts of felony bail jumping.

Shawano tennis singles player Rachel Carroll went 2-0 and extended her season mark to 11-1 when the Hawks hosted Manitowoc and Oshkosh North in a triangular Aug. 26. As a whole, the team did not perform as well as Carroll. Shawano was 0-2 in match play. Oshkosh North 8, Shawano 1 Carroll won her No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-0 over Arianna Bauer.

Bay Conference Mini-Meet #4 Aug. 26 Shawano golfer Sophia Eggert was the medalist once again when the Hawks competed Aug. 26 in the Bay Conference Mini-Meet No. 4 at Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil. Eggert’s score of 40 set the pace for the Hawks, who placed second with a 192. Seymour won with a 177, and Bonduel placed fifth with a 211. Joining Eggert for Shawano were Lily Glysch with a 45, Melanie Kunze with a 52 and Madelyn Moesch with a 55.

One man and one woman died in a one-car accident Aug. 29 in the Town of Bartelme. The Shawano County Sheriff's Department responded at 5:09 p.m. to the crash at Elm Road near Koan Tuk Drive. Callers reported the vehicle was on fire and there were severely injured people on scene.

Main Street in Gillett has been a sweeter place to be this summer. Pete Vorpahl opened Main Street Sweets at 127 E. Main St. in time for the community’s annual Independence Day parade.

The Little Falls Loggers will travel to the Scandinavia Vikings on Sept. 1 to compete in the 78th Badger Amateur Baseball Association Grand Championship Game. Little Falls beat Eland 7-5 in 12 innings on Aug. 25 to advance, and Scandinavia beat Clintonville 14-1 to host the title game. Little Falls 7, Eland 5 Chris Dunn was the winning pitcher, lasting 11 innings. He struck out 10, walked four, gave up eight hits and five run.
