Boucher named new softball coach in Shawano

Nathan Boucher will be the new head softball coach at Shawano Community High School, pending formal approval by the Shawano School Board.

The three shows are “Godspell” in March, “The Play that Goes Wrong” in May and “A Ghost Tale for Mr. Dickens Jr.” in December. “Godspell,” directed by Elizabeth Jolly-Haslitt, will be performed March 13-23.

CWD confirmed on Menominee Reservation
The first confirmed positive case of chronic wasting disease (CWD) on the Menominee Reservation has been confirmed, a tribal official announced. Gena Kakkak, the tribe’s chairwoman, said that on Nov. 19, a hunter harvested a buck in the southeast corner of the reservation, and the deer was later confirmed positive for CWD. CWD is a contagious, fatal neurological disease that affects the nervous system of deer, elk, moose and caribou.
Exotic pet surrender event slated for Jan. 11
J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue in Neenah will hold an exotic pet surrender event from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 11 in Room 1206 (agriculture wing) at Shawano Community High School, 220 County Road B, Shawano. Use Door I for entry. Fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals and plants will be accepted with no questions asked.
Shawano tops Seymour in boys basketball
Dec. 17 Shawano 53, Seymour 38 Shawano improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Bay Conference with a 53-38 win over Seymour. “The team played with a lot of heart as we were down a coupe players,” coach Ryan Koenig said.

Candidates have until Jan. 7 to file paperwork
Residents are reminded they still have time to filed nomination papers for local offices that will be decided in the April 1, 2025, election. In Shawano County towns, there are elections for chairpersons, supervisors, clerks and treasurers. Village positions on the ballot include presidents and trustees, as well as the clerk and treasurer in Eland. In the city of Shawano, there will be elections for three alderpersons.
Coin discussion planned at Pulaski Museum
