J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue in Neenah will hold an exotic pet surrender event from noon to 3 p.m. Jan. 11 in Room 1206 (agriculture wing) at Shawano Community High School, 220 County Road B, Shawano. Use Door I for entry.
Fish, invertebrates, reptiles, pet birds, small mammals and plants will be accepted with no questions asked. People are asked to bring in their pets in a secure container.
After a brief quarantine period, all surrendered animals will be available for adoption.
This is for exotic pets, so dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs and chickens will not be accepted. For these animals, contact local shelters or rescues. Also, J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue can not take Wisconsin native wildlife that has been removed from the wild. Animals originating from out of state must include a certificate of veterinary inspection.
Also at the event will be opportunities to meet animal ambassadors and hear their stories, and photo opportunities with rescued animals at the photo booth.
Joining J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue in hosting the event are the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant/Water Resources Institutes, Waterways Association of Menominee and Shawano Counties, and Menominee County Conservation/Forestry/Zoning Department.
