ThedaCare is encouraging more women to play an active role in helping to reduce incidents of cervical cancer across central and northeastern Wisconsin. “Protection from cervical cancer begins with healthy lifestyle choices, early detection through regular exams and screenings, and vaccination against certain viruses,” said Dr. Emily Gonnering, ThedaCare family medicine physician.

Norman “Jake” Peterson, 73, of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, with family by his side. Jake was born April 22, 1951, to the late Edward and Mildred (Olson) Peterson in Oconto Falls. He graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1970. On Sept. 2, 1978, Jake married the love of his life, Susan Gomber, at St. John Catholic Church in Gillett. Jake started working in construction before moving on to logging.

Lee A. Smith, 79, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 14, 2025, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, following complications from a routine medical procedure. Born on May 16, 1945, in Springfield, Ohio, Lee was the eldest son of the late Hamlin and Amy (Armstrong) Smith.

Jan. 31 Bay Area 4, Arrowhead 1 Faye Brunke scored two of Bay Area’s four goals in its 4-1 win over Arrowhead at the Cornerstone Community Center in Ashwaubenon. Ava McDonald scored only 36 seconds into the contest with an assist from Julianne Bradford. Brunke’s first goal came at 2:51 with Tiana Stindt assisting. Briana Anundsen scored at 2:33 in the second period to put the Ice Bears up 3-0.
