County to host informational meeting about wheel tax

Shawano County officials will hold an informational meeting about the reasons behind a proposed wheel tax and take public comment on the issue Feb. 20. The meeting will be held 3:30-6 p.m. in Rooms A and B of the Shawano County Courthouse, 311 N.
Moede wins at Preble as Shawano girls prepare for wrestling regionals
Feb. 8 Green Bay Preble Tournament Shawano’s girls wrestling team competed in its final regular season tournament before WIAA playoff action begins. Jenna Moede finished in first at 114 pounds. “She wrestled well all day long attacking on takedowns and controlling in the top position,” coach Mike Homan said. “Her finals match was one of the best she has ever wrestled.
Hawks hockey team wins in OT
Feb. 6 Shawano/Bonduel 4, Appleton United 3 (OT) A pair of goals by Appleton North late in the third period forced overtime, but Shawano/Bonduel pulled out the win with a goal by Blake Knope in the second OT frame. Cameron Schroeder assisted on the game-winning shot. The Hawks’ scoring began at 7:10 in the first period on an even strength goal by Blake Swedberg.
Bonduel, Tigerton boys remain perfect in conference play
Feb. 7 Bonduel 85, Shiocton 75 Race Anvelink and Quinn Wesenberg combined for 51 points to lead Bonduel to an 85-75 win over Shiocton. The Bears are now 19-0 overall and 11-0 in the Central Wisconsin East Conference. Anvelink scored 28 points, including six 3-pointers. Wesenberg’s 23 points included four 3-pointers. Ryan Westrich contributed another 13 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Eight die on county roads in 2024
Shawano County roadways were the site of six fatal crashes in 2024, which led to eight deaths. Sheriff George Lenzner told the public safety committee Feb.
Chamber, other groups sponsor speed coaching
Entrepreneurs and small business owners are invited to a speed coaching event sponsored by Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation, Score and the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce. The free event will be held Feb. 26 at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College’s Shawano campus, 111 Thomas Ave., Shawano.
