Green Bay Preble Tournament
Shawano’s girls wrestling team competed in its final regular season tournament before WIAA playoff action begins.
Jenna Moede finished in first at 114 pounds.
“She wrestled well all day long attacking on takedowns and controlling in the top position,” coach Mike Homan said. “Her finals match was one of the best she has ever wrestled. She really controlled her front headlocks and kept her opponent out of her elbow control.”
With 30 seconds left in the first period, she had an opportunity for a throw and she used it. She secured her takedown and earned a fall with five seconds left in the period.
“Jenna has been wrestling well, and she is peaking at the right time,” Homan said. “I’m looking forward to watching her wrestle the next few weekends.”
Gwyn Hermann placed second.
“Gwyn wrestled well today,” Homan said. “She came up short in her finals match against a great opponent but has shown improvement all season long.”
Lily Tomas placed third, Jacey Cowden was fourth, and Kendall Knope finished fifth.
Placing seventh were Zennah Bosetski, Lauren Seehafer and Brynn Hannes. Maddie Miller finished in eighth.
Ninth place was earned by Jozlyn Brocker, Bella Tupper and Madelyn Moesch. Ella Korth placed 12th.
The girls will be in action Feb.. 14 at Wausau West for WIAA regionals.
As for Pulaski, Harlow Skenandore was the winner of the 145 match. Skenandore, 18-0, pinned Sturgeon Bay’s Tiani LeMieux, 4-1, in 1:22.
Earning second place in their weight categories were Leah Kapla at 132, Ellie Neosh at 165 and Noelle Manning at 185.
Taylor Gunville placed third at 152.
Lillian Wiitala finished fourth at 107, and Elliana Maroszek was fourth at 132.
Maddeline McCargar placed fifth at 235.
At 138, Reese Burich was seventh.
Pulaski wrestlers will compete in a tournament Feb. 14 at Peshtigo.
