Husband and father Alfon J. Westphal, born in the town of Hartland on Dec. 22, 1922, to the late Fred C. and Lydia (Deede) Westphal, passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2013, at age 90, surrounded by his family at Birch Hill Care Center, Shawano. Alfon and Dolores (Miss Muffet) Simon were united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel by Pastor Plischke on Sept. 14, 1946.

A memorial service and celebration of life for Eugene “The Pipper” Pipgrass, who passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil.

June M. Jones, 76, of Spiegel Road, Tigerton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah. The former June Marie Mitchell was born on Feb. 17, 1937, in London, England, to John Sorfleet and Mary Mitchell. She moved from England to Milwaukee in 1987. June was united in marriage to Robert W. Jones in Milwaukee, and he preceded her in death in 2003. She moved north and settled in Tigerton in 2005.

Viola M. Lemke Braatz, 100, formerly of Cecil, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, in Shawano. Viola was born on March 17, 1913, in the town of Washington to John and Louise (Bahr) Bartelt. On March 3, 1931, she was united in marriage to Clarence Lemke, of Cecil. He preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1972. On Jan. 17, 1976, she married Leonard Braatz, of Shawano. He passed away on Oct. 15, 2008.

Walter R. Grunewald, 87, of Caroline, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at the Shawano Medical Center. “Wally” was born on May 13, 1926, in the Township of Grant, Shawano County, the son of the late Gustave and Lydia (Wissmann) Grunewald Sr. On June 30, 1945, Wally was united in marriage to Betty Redmann at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline. The couple lived in the Township of Grant all of their married life.

Delores Frieda Mae Lechterman, 77, of Tilleda, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013. Born on May 26, 1936, in Shawano, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alma (Hoffmier) Pieper. On Oct. 30, 1954, she was united in marriage to Louis E. Lechterman at the St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the town of Richmond.

Edward W. Ehlert, 92, of Clintonville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on Sept. 30, 1921, in Embarrass, he was the son of the late Herman and Ella (Kruse) Ehlert. On July 21, 1944, he was united in marriage to Betty Strong at the Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. The couple celebrated nearly 65 years together before Betty’s death on June 25, 2009.

Donald F. George, 89, De Pere, left this world but not our hearts on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence of Unity Hospice in De Pere. He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in De Pere, son of the late George and Maude (Saty) George. Don served his country with honor in the Seabees division of the United States Navy during World War II.

A Seymour man previously convicted of child sexual assault and already on trial for a similar crime in Calumet County was charged last week with new offenses in Shawano County. Norbert DeGroot, 73, faces a felony count of repeated sexual assault of a child that allegedly occurred in Hofa Park between 2006 and 2007.
