Dale Herbert Wussow, 67, of Bonduel, was called to heaven on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, after a courageous, four-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his own home. Born on Jan. 17, 1946, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Herbert and Laura (Schroeder) Wussow.

For Mark Zeitler, a commitment to keep alive the memory of his father has produced the memory of a lifetime for himself. For the past three years, the Zeitler family has organized the Memorial Bird Dog Field Trial Hunt in memory of Karl Zeitler, who passed away in 2010. Prosecution of three area residents responsible for several intentional fires is winding down, with two more guilty pleas expected today. Jessica Miller and Donald Halbur Jr., both of Crivitz, are scheduled to plead guilty today in federal court to arson in connection with the July 2012 fire at Miller’s bar in the town of Bagley. Their trial was to begin Monday in federal court in Green Bay before defense attorneys notified the court on Oct.

Oconto County will rely heavily on its reserve funds to retain its debt-free status for a fourth consecutive year. The Oconto County Board on Thursday unanimously approved the 2014 county budget. “The Finance Committee did a great job in better years putting money away for a rainy day. But we are now at that rainy day,” said Kevin Hamann, administrative coordinator.

At 2:30 a.m. Nov. 3, a car driven by a woman from Altoona left County Road J in the town of Oconto and entered a ditch. She left the scene and when contacted later told authorities she swerved to avoid striking a deer. She was not injured. Her vehicle sustained moderate damage. At 10:55 p.m. Nov. 3, a woman from Oconto Falls was traveling north on U.S. 141 south of Chicken Shack Road, town of Stiles, and struck a deer on the roadway.

Proceedings from Nov. 1 Stanley B. LeClair, 64, Athelstane, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental defect to a stalking charge, which allegedly occurred between May 23 and June 2 in the town of Townsend. A status conference is set for Dec. 23, and a $10,000 cash bond continues. Breanna J. Heller, 22, Green Bay, entered not guilty pleas to causing substantial battery and disorderly conduct. She was arrested July 6 in the town of Lena.

Robert James Mortell passed away Nov. 1, 2013. He was born on Aug. 29, 1921, to John and Athlene (Meetz) Mortell. He was active in the Boy Scouts and graduated from West Green Bay High School in 1941 and attended Badger Business College. He enlisted in the Army in the early years of World War II and served as a corporal technician from May 1942 until October 1945. He spent two and a half years in the Aleutian Islands.
