A different player steps up every game for the Shawano Community High School boys basketball team. Sajen Knueppel took his turn Friday in a 50-38 win over Bay Conference foe New London. Knueppel, a 6-foot-2 junior guard, came off the bench to score six points in the second quarter and spark the Hawks after a quiet first quarter. With about seven minutes left in the half, Knueppel drove the lane to the basket and tied the game at 9-9.

Richard C. Popp Sr., 71, of Clintonville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass. “Dick” was born on April 1, 1942, in Green Bay, the son of the late Leonard and Lucille (Eckert) Popp. The family lived in the Bonduel area, and Dick graduated from Bonduel High School. Dick had served in the U.S. Army from 1963 until his honorable discharge in 1967.

Joshua J. Richards, 25, of Green Bay, was tragically taken from us, his family and many friends on Dec. 9, 2013. Josh graduated from Gillett High School in 2006 and from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College-Sturgeon Bay in 2009. Josh was loved by so many and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was a member of the Green Bay Blackjack football team and was involved in competitive body building.

And those are just the ones she is selling to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. “I made cookies for years when I worked in a restaurant,” said Marquardt, who worked at L&L Ranch, Al & Rosie’s and the Chalet Diner. “People asked for them.” Her cookies were so popular she began selling them about 12 years ago.

A new company will take over operation of the city’s shared-ride taxi program starting next month, but riders are not expected to notice much difference. Starting Jan. 1, Viroqua-based Running Inc. will be operating City Cab, under the same service terms and fares that Top Hat Inc. of La Crosse operated under since 2008. The Shawano Common Council unanimously approved an agreement with Running Inc.

Authorities executing a search warrant Tuesday busted an alleged drug operation in a town of Aniwa trailer protected by weapons and a surveillance system.
