Christopher Maynard Koehler, 44, of Shawano, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. Born on Oct. 21, 1969, in Shawano, he was the son of Maynard Koehler and Marcia (Michael) Reinicke. Chris lived most of his life in the Shawano area. For the past five years, he worked at Nueske Meats in Wittenberg.

Pauline June Beyer, 79, of the town of Wescott, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Shawano. Born on Jan. 13, 1935, in Fairchild, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Angeline (Schliter) Peterson. After graduating high school, Pauline furthered her education with a degree in nursing from the Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse.

Cynthia G. Lasch, 67, of the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano, passed away on Jan. 16, 2014, from injuries received in a vehicle accident in Salt Lake City, Utah, and joined her Heavenly Father in the Celestial Kingdom. Cynthia was born in Lewiston, Idaho, on June 16, 1946, to Eris and Stanley Elam. She was married to Gene C. Lasch in Grangeville, Idaho, on June 12, 1965.

A Shawano man, maintaining his innocence, was sentenced Tuesday to the maximum penalty allowable for the double murder of a brother and sister in 2009. Daniel Schmidt, 30, was sentenced to two consecutive sentences of life in prison, without chance of parole, for the intentional homicides of his ex-mistress, Kimberly Rose, 32, and her brother, Leonard Marsh, 22, on May 19, 2009. The Oconto Falls School Board heard welcome news from its auditor Jan. 13 regarding its post-employment obligations. Dave Maccoux of Schenck Associates said previous reports had overstated the district’s liability because payments for sick leave were also counted as post-employment obligations.
