A fly, drunkenly buzzing on my window pane, distracts me as I look out my office window toward the barn. Joining the fly, I count four ladybugs bound and determined to get somewhere. They look like they’re on a mission, but for the life of me I don’t know where they’re going nor why.

Kenneth “Ken” Malueg, 84, of Tigerton, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Evergreen Care Center, Shawano. Kenneth Louis Malueg was born on April 7, 1930, in the town of Germania, Shawano County, to Louis and Dorothy (Popelka) Malueg. He was united in marriage on May 3, 1953, to Elaine M. Jepson at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton.

Morris M. Krueger, 76, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano, where he had been a resident for two days. Morris was born on Dec. 24, 1937, in Shawano, a son of the late Benjamin and Bernice (Darling) Krueger. He attended the Shawano schools and was a graduate of Shawano High School. Following graduation, he entered the United States Navy.

Theodore Henry Otto, 78, of Sheboygan, passed away Friday morning, April 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 13, 1936, in Sheboygan, Theodore was a son of the late Adolph and Olga Radke Otto. He attended Madison Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1953. He then went on to honor his country by serving in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.

People are still surprised when they find the Senior Gift Shop, even though it has been part of the Shawano Civic Center since it was constructed in 1983.

Arlene J. Burke, 89, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, at The Cottages in Shawano. She was born July 19, 1924, in Lunds, a daughter of the late George W. and Clara J. (Anker) Black. A memorial service for Arlene will be held Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Gisele Berninghaus will officiate.

Lola M. Pleshek, 87, formerly of the town of Waukechon, passed away Friday afternoon, April 11, 2014, at ManorCare of Shawano, where she had been a resident for the past four years. A funeral Mass for Lola will be celebrated Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. The Rev. Luke Ferris will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery, town of Waukechon.

To the editor: One vote matters. The April 1 vote for alderperson in Clintonville’s Fourth District ended in a tie: 100 votes each for me and for my opponent. Turns out one more person voting would have made the difference. Now the election is likely to be decided by drawing a name from a hat.
