Battling ‘bots return to OFHS

Middle and high school students from Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois will descend upon Oconto Falls High School on Saturday, Jan. 24, for the second Northeast Wisconsin VEX Robotics Challenge. Thirty-five teams will battle against each other with robots created from the VEX Robotics Design System. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the high school, 210 N. Farm Road.
Zeitler wins weight class at Peshtigo tourney
Gillett Secondary School junior Alex Zeitler captured the 152-pound division Saturday at the 46th annual Peshtigo Invitational. The Gillett/Suring team placed third, behind champion Oconto Falls and runner-up Peshtigo. Oconto Falls High School wrestlers captured 11 first-place finishes and the team title Saturday at the 46th annual Peshtigo Invitational. Peshtigo finished a distant second and Gillett/Suring was third. OFHS senior Dewey Krueger remained undefeated at 25-0 after winning three matches, including three by pin, at 160 pounds. OFHS wrestlers overpower Shawano
Marc Kinziger certainly likes where his team is at right now. Following a 66-9 rout of Shawano on Thursday night, the Oconto Falls High School wrestling team is out to a 4-0 record in the Bay Conference. “I think our best is yet to come, but it’s starting to get into place,” said Kinziger, who is a tri-head coach for the Panthers.
OFHS girls suffer 1st loss to Shawano
Entering Friday’s game at Shawano, the Oconto Falls High School girls basketball team had never lost to its Bay Conference foe. That changed as back-to-back 3-pointers by senior Courtney Vomastic propelled the Hawks to a 40-30 win. It was Shawano’s first win over the Panthers since they rejoined the Bay Conference in 2007. Fire victim identified
Authorities on Monday released the name of the man found dead Thursday in the wreckage of a home destroyed by fire in Green Valley. Kenneth P. Lawniczak, 55, was the home owner and sole resident, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department. Firefighters responded to the fire on Town Line Road in Green Valley, just west of Krakow, shortly after 6 a.m. The house was already engulfed when they arrived.

We’ve left another year behind and 2015 is here! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been writing this column for 10 years and have been on this earth for almost 75! In my first column, in January 2005, I introduced readers to the Mielke Arts Center and The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild.
Life always gives us something to complain about
I heard the other day that it was Clean Your Desk Day. I had to laugh at that. First of all, I don’t have a normal size desk. When I built the house, I wanted an office and a built-in desk. A place for everything and everything in its place, I thought. Yeah, well, that might have lasted if I wasn’t a clutter bug at heart. I have occasionally gotten to the bottom of the clutter on the desk.
