Bonduel wrestlers break the 100-win barrier

There are ways to be remembered that are more subtle than others, but there is something unforgettable about the century mark. A couple of Bonduel High School wrestlers established membership in that elite group recently, as Travis Wollenberg and Garrett Siolka wrote their names in the school record book in permanent ink by posting their 100th career wins. BOYS BASKETBALL Port Edwards 61 Menominee Indian 36 Menominee Indian (11-9, 9-8 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) got 10 points from Alphonso Smith, but it wasn’t enough against conference-leading Port Edwards (18-2, 16-1 CWC-10). Soper wins another state title
The cliché reference “in the blink of an eye” couldn’t be more accurate. Zach Soper – a senior and defending state champion for Shawano Community High School – was crunching the numbers leading to Friday’s WIAA Division 2 state final at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Natatorium.

5 Bonduel wrestlers advance to state finals
With the possible exception of tightrope walking, a five-of-six success ratio is cause for celebration in any athletic endeavor. Time-share among Gresham Dollars for Scholars prizes
John and Diane Bauman, of Gresham, are donating a time-share to the Gresham Scholarship Fund annual banquet fundraiser March 28. The event typically raises from $12,000 to $14,000 for scholarships for Gresham Secondary School graduates.

School Notes
Gresham Community School From Feb. 11-13, the seventh-graders took a field trip to Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya. They were able to sled, ice skate and have lots of fun with their classmates and the advisers. On Monday, Gresham students had a day off of school, while the teachers had an inservice day. The middle school girls played at Menominee Tribal School on Tuesday. Gresham’s eighth-grade team lost a close game by two points.

Sex offender to be released in city
A man convicted of sexually assaulting a child in Shawano County 10 years ago will be released into the Shawano community next week. Dwayne Nye, 57, will finish his 10-year prison sentence and is due to be released Feb. 24, the Shawano Police Department said in a public notice Wednesday. Nye will reside at the New Era House, 105 E. Richmond St.
