A massive church bell thought to be more than 100 years old will soon take on a yet undetermined new role. The bell, which for generations called worshipers to service at the now closed Abrams Methodist Church, was recently removed from the structure. A little over six years ago the vacant church property was purchased by the Oconto Falls School District to provide an expanded parking area and a revised entrance to Abrams Elementary School.

The Gillett Police Department got the go-ahead Thursday from the Gillett Common Council to hire a part-time police officer. The new hire will be Jason Fischer, a Pulaski High School graduate who is certified in law enforcement by Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
