The softball and baseball diamonds at the Orby Jones Sports Complex in Gillett will soon be sporting new scoreboards.
The Gillett Common Council on Thursday approved Gillett Diamond Club’s proposal to purchase three new scoreboards, one for each field at the city-owned complex.
The Gillett Diamond Club will pay for the purchase and installation of the electronic scoreboards, and the club will be responsible for all maintenance costs upon the expiration of the five-year warranties.
“The first one will be up by June 1,” Diamond Club President Dawn Nelson said.
The other two scoreboards will be installed before the start of the season next spring.
Each scoreboard will cost about $7,500.
According to a letter from the club to the council, the scoreboards would enhance the complex, improve player morale and pride in the home field, encourage area teams to play in Gillett tournaments, which would bring business to the community, and allow the high school to host WIAA sectional tournament games.
