Bears suffer tough loss at Oconto

A depleted pitching staff and illness were too much for Bonduel High School to overcome in a WIAA Division 3 regional softball championship game Saturday in Oconto. Fresh off a three-game winning streak — the longest of the Bears’ season, Bonduel had neither the hitting nor pitching needed to upset Oconto, which advanced with a 10-2 win. Teen in triple fatal bound over for trial
The teenage driver in the October crash that claimed the lives of his three young passengers was bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing Monday. Ryan M. Letter: New scholarship available to Gresham community
To the editor: Gresham Scholarship Fund has enjoyed great support from the community since we all began to pull together in this effort 14 years ago. We have shared a common goal: to help Gresham students pursue secondary education. A few years ago, we began to think about how we might expand on this theme and help other community members further their education.

Day trips off the farm
Whenever we get away for a bit, there is much planning to be done. Just recently we had the chance to leave the farm for a day, twice, within a couple of weeks. Unusual! Even if it’s only one day away, the cows still have to be milked, and the heifers and calves still need tending. For the most part, they don’t care who does it, just as long as it gets handled.

Shawano Community High School The American Legion of Wisconsin annually provides the Americanism and Government scholarship program, which fosters interest in all levels of government and citizenship, and provides students the opportunity to receive recognition and scholarships. A 50-question test is administered to test a student’s knowledge of U.S. government, Wisconsin government and county government.

Nonprofit Profile
At one time, the Navarino Merri Maids, organized in 1935, was one of the largest homemaker clubs in Shawano County. In 1994, they were named Club of the Year. The club now has nine members who are very active in the community.

Volunteer Profile
Jeanette Griepp Berkovitz is a member of the Shawano County Historical Society and chairperson of the grounds for the Shawano County Historical Society’s annual Rhubarb Festival. Born and raised on Lime Kiln Hill in Shawano County, Berkovitz graduated from Shawano High School in 1961. She earned a degree in English from Wheaton College in Illinois and worked in Chicago before moving to the west coast.
