Oconto Falls could not get the ball to fall when it needed to, losing 2-0 to Iola in the American Legion Baseball Class A regional championship game Sunday in Clintonville. Oconto Falls (17-8, 7-3 Fox River Valley-North) loaded the bases in three of the first four innings and stranded 12 base runners in the game. In the first inning, Dalton Curl flew out to left field with the bases loaded.

Sometimes the best thing for new youth baseball teams is to gain experience against stiff competition. Last weekend, the Oconto Falls and Lena 10U baseball squads came away winless at a 12-team Shawano Youth League tournament, but there were encouraging signs for both teams. Oconto Falls coach Rob Clark noted it was his team’s first appearance at a tournament. “It is a tough tournament; there are teams from all over the state,” Clark said.

James R. Hein, 78, of Clintonville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 25, 2015. He was born Jan. 26, 1937, in the Township of Bear Creek to Max and Ida (Krueger) Hein. Jim grew up on the family farm and lived there until his unexpected death. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1954. He married Shirley Fredrick on June 12, 1960, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville.

Justine Spiros, 87, of Shawano, died on July 21, 2015, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah. She was born Justine Alberta Parnell on Nov. 5, 1927, in Lafayette, Indiana, to John and Mable Parnell. For most of her adult life, Justine worked as a businesswoman, who ran or owned businesses in Cleveland, Ohio, Milwaukee and Chicago. In 1991, she relocated her business, J.D. Medical Products, to Bonduel.

Hans George Schwandt, 86, of Keshena, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Shawano. Hans is survived by three children, John (Jill) Schwandt, of Wauwatosa, Theresa (Rich) Harwell, of Wauwatosa, and Susan (Greg) Badura, of Walnut, California; 10 grandchildren, Jodie, Jim, Michael, Chris, Monica, Sean, Caitrin, and Ryan, Darcy, Jessica; and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at 11 a.m.
