Crawford Center’s twists and turns continue

Wisconsin Public Radio reorganizing services
Following two years of analysis, audience research and planning, WPR is reorganizing its statewide service to help listeners more easily find and enjoy news and music on the radio and on wpr.org. Beginning May 20, WPR’s two current networks — NPR News and Music and The Ideas Network — will become WPR News and WPR Music.

Tribal crime victims program earns FBI award
The Menominee Tribal Crime Victims Program has been named the 2023 recipient of the Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) for the FBI Milwaukee Field Office. The Menominee Tribal Crime Victims Program is a partner with the FBI’s Victim Assistance Program in Wisconsin. The Menominee Tribal Crime Victims Program addresses the unique challenges faced by tribal members, working with the FBI and the U.S.

Pulaski, Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Gresham/Bowler track and field teams earn wins
Pulaski’s girls picked up seven first-place finishes at the De Pere Quadrangular on April 8. Olivia Sprangers won the 200-meter dash in 26.97, while Ella Hasser won the 400-meter dash in 1:05.64. Ella Ficarri won the 100-meter hurdles in 17 seconds flat. The 4x200-meter really team won in 1:48.11. Runners were Addison Krueger, Lily Urben, Rachael Allen and Sprangers. The 4x400-meter relay also won, with a time of 4:18.4.

Tigerton, Pulaski, Wittenberg-Birnamwood win in baseball
Bonduel stands at 1-1 on the year and 1-1 in CWC East play following a 4-2 home loss to Amherst on April 8. The game was scoreless through the first four innings. Bonduel took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Mason Zuleger infield single.

Bonduel wins in 9 innings
Bonduel won 3-2 in nine innings against Amherst at Cedar Park in Bonduel on April 8. Lila Pleshek had a single to drive in Gracyn Wudtke in the bottom of the ninth for Bonduel. Pleshek also had a double to help the cause. Hailey Zernicke earned the save with four strikeouts. Amherst led 1-0 after the first inning only to see Bonduel tie the game in the third.

Pulaski girls lacrosse team loses opener
The Pulaski girls lacrosse team was shut out in its debut game April 8. Bay Port easily won the contest, 15-0.

Charger girls clean up at Warrior Invite
Wittenberg-Birnamwood runners captured five first-place finishes at the Wausau West Girls Warrior Invitational on April 4. Faith Resch won the 200-meter hurdles in 30.73 and the triple jump at 33-1.75. Harper Rogowski won the 400-meter dash in 1:08.

Bonduel boys take fourth in Wausau
Bonduel’s boys finished in fourth place with 53 pants at the Wausau West Boys Warrior Invitational on April 5. Shawano was fifth with 47 points, Menominee Indian placed seventh with 32 points, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood was 11th with no score. Ben O’Brien led the Bears with a first place in the 3,200-meter run in 11:25.45.

Navarino Wildlife Area wetlands to be restored
Sixteen acres of wetlands at the Navarino Wildlife Area will be restored with the project expected to begin this year. The project is the first to be undertaken by the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association (WWA). Wisconsin has 1.4 million acres of public land available for hunting and recreation, including some of the best waterfowl habitat in the country.
