Shawano’s girls soccer team hosted its second home game of the season April 9 and satisfied their appetite for victory with a 15-0 Bay Conference win over Green Bay West. The Hawks (2-1) wasted no time in getting on the board. Freshman Kendall Knope scored the opening goal in the first 42 seconds, with an assist from junior Darcie Erdmann, who finished the game with a hat trick. Senior Caitlyn Moede had one goal and two assists.

Appleton United jumped all over Pulaski’s boys lacrosse team from the beginning and didn’t let up, winning the non-conference game 22-2 on April 9. While the Red Raiders connected on two goals in the first quarter, Appleton United scored eight times in each of the first two quarters, added four in the third and two more in the fourth.

The number of unsolved cases involving missing and murdered Indigenous people continues to grow, and Shawano Community High School is doing its part to shine a light on the issue. The high school will be observing Missing and Murdered Indigenous People’s Day on May 3 with a walk starting at the school at 8:30 a.m. and anticipated to end at Shawano Community Middle School.

The Shawano School Board is going back to the drawing board as the $54.5 million referendum failed by 75 votes earlier this month. Representatives from Hoffman Planning and Design, which has been working with the school district for over a year to plan and sell the referendum to voters, spoke to board members about the loss and what needs to be done to present a revised proposal to voters when the November election comes around.

The Oconto County Commission on Aging is starting a new three-week program that can empower older people to reduce falls at home and in the community.
