The body of a Little Suamico man was recovered from the bay of Green Bay on Aug. 24, six weeks after he and his two young children died when their small sailboat capsized on the bay. A news release from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Department said Billy Salnik, 32, was found shortly after noon Aug.

The Oconto County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 22 honored former chief deputy Darren Laskowski, who retired July 5 after 30 years with the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Todd Skarban said Laskowski started as a correctional officer and served as a patrol deputy, but the longest part of his career was as an investigator. “We investigated a lot of things together, and it was the ugly, violent side of things,” Skarban said.

Pertussis is caused by a bacteria and easily spreads from person to person through contact with droplets of saliva expelled by an infected person when they talk, cough, or sneeze, etc.

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has hired Adam Pfost as the vice president of finance and administration. Dennis Karcz, a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2024. The son of Peter and Esther (Nowak) Karcz was born on May 3, 1947, in Green Bay. On Nov. 8, 1969, he married Linda Robaidek at Assumption BVM Church. Dennis worked in the financial loan industry, assisting farmers and small businesses in northeastern Wisconsin.

Bay Port Invite Aug. 19-20 Shawano Community High School’s girls tennis team started their season with a two-day, six-match invite in the Green Bay area. On Aug. 19, the Hawks started out 2-1, then fell 0-3 on Aug. 20. In its division, Shawano played against Green Bay Preble, Howards Grove, Menominee (Michigan), Eau Claire Regis, Onalaska Luther and New Richmond. Eleven other teams competed in two other divisions.
